Last night was my dreadful Wednesday evening. I was tired and had no patience and I sat at my desk 10 til 6 thinking of the energy I would have to dig out from my reserve's reserve to deal with my son later.
On the drive over to Matt's house I just blasted the music to try to take my mind off of the situation. I pulled into his driveway and with the least amount of enthusiasm, I dragged myself out of my car up to his door and knocked. I could hear Chi inside. "That's my mommy! Yes!" Matt opened the door and I went inside.
He must have seen the exhaustion all over my face because he asked if I had had a long day at work. I responded with, "Yeah... and to be honest with you, I have grown to dread picking Chi up Wednesday nights..." I went on and gave a little more detail of what I deal with in the ride to the house and once we got home. Matt squatted down and looked Malachi in the eyes. "You will be a good boy for mommy and if you are not, mommy is going to call me and I will get on the phone with you and if need be come to mommy's house and have a lil talk with you. Do you understand?" "Yes daddy." Matt then told me that if I have any issues to please call him. I said thank you and alright. Hopefully this will work, was all I could think. For my sanity, please let it work.
The drive home wasn't bad. I decided to take a little 'blog-peer' advice and try some positive reinforcement. So I told Chi that if he was a good boy I would stop and get McDonald's for dinner. He thought that was a great idea. So we made it home, no problems. Wow, so far so good. Made it through dinner, still no problems. He watched a lil cartoons while I read, and STILL no problems! Could this really be happening? Could I actually have a relaxing and enjoying Wednesday evening? Bath time, no problems. Book time, no problems. Say our prayer and bed time, NO PROBLEMS!!!
I retreated to my bedroom in utter amazement. It worked. A good combo of a parenting team and positive reinforcement, I was on my way to sanity (for the most part) again! Whooo Hooo!!!

I'm glad his daddy was willing to work with you. Kids love to play their parents against each other. You're a good mommy to that sweet little boy! :o)
I know how much you were dreading it and am so glad that his Dad stepped up to support you.
